American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)

 

Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP)- This program provides homelessness prevention assistance to households who would otherwise become homeless. This program also provides assistance to rapidly re-house persons who are homeless as defined by Federal law and HUD. Services provided under this program include rent, utility assistance, rent and utility deposits, credit repair costs, moving costs, and legal fees associated with eviction. HPRP is a Federally funded program. MGCAA contracts with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs to receive the local funding.

 

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)- The purpose of the ARRA Federal grant programs are to supplement appropriations for job preservation and creation, infrastructure investment, energy efficiency and science, assistance to the unemployed, and State and local fiscal stabilization.  Programs offered through ARRA include Assistance with first months childcare, Assistance with after school care, Assistance with skills necessary to obtain and maintain a job, Assistance with job related incidentals, Assistance with GED testing fees, Financial Literacy workshops, Homebuyer workshops, Credit repair assistance, Purchase and installation of AC unit, Food Assistance, Mortgage assistance, Rent assistance, Utility Assistance, and Assistance in applying for free cell phone service. These programs are geared toward those persons recently unemployed, underemployed, or recently employed.

 

Weatherization- ”To reduce heating and cooling costs for low-income families, particularly for the elderly, people with disabilities, and children, by improving the energy efficiency of their homes, while ensuring their health and safety.”  The goal of the program is to impact the long term affordability of the family’s energy consumption.  An average of $6,500 per house, in materials and labor costs for energy conservation measures installed by trained persons in air reduction are allowed.  These services may include attic insulation, broken window repair, air sealing using caulk, thresholds, water heater replacement and/or wrap and efficient lighting bulbs, and assuring adequate heat is provided.  All work is a grant to income eligible homeowners or renters (with landlord permission).  Houses and trailers are eligible regardless of location.
