Head Start
Investing in Early Education
Head Start is a federally funded program for low-income children aged three to five and their families.
This website is supported by Grant Number 04CH012149 from the Office of Head Start within the Administration for Children and Families, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Neither the Administration for Children and Families nor any of its components operate, control, are responsible for, or necessarily endorse this website (including, without limitation, its content, technical infrastructure, and policies, and any services or tools provided). The opinions, findings, conclusions, and recommendations expressed are those of Middle Georgia Community Action Agency, Inc. and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Administration for Children and Families and the Office of Head Start.
Building a Strong Foundation
Head Start promotes the school readiness of children ages 3 to 5 by encouraging their cognitive, social, and emotional development. Head Start recognizes that parents are a child’s first teacher and also aims to empower them for a life long role in the child’s maturation and learning.
Building Strong Futures
Head Start provides a range of services in the areas of education and early childhood development, including:
Health
Nutrition
Family Support
Literacy

The management of Head Start reaches beyond the program and into the operation of the agency itself. Although the agency’s Board of Directors is legally responsible for the operation of Head Start, the governance of the program is shared between the Head Start Policy Council and the agency’s Board of Directors.
This shared governance allows parents and community representatives to contribute ideas and information for program improvement to the Board of Directors.
